How to Get Makeup Out of Carpet: Simple Steps to Deal with Makeups Misfortunes

How to Get Foundation out of Carpet

A foundation stain on your carpet can make you panic and pick any clothing and just start scrubbing. Don’t do that as it will make the situation worse but simply follow these steps.

  1. Immediately after spilling your foundation, find a butter knife and gently scrape the excess foundation from the carpet.
  2. Wipe the stain with a dry cloth or microfiber cloth. Make sure you dab the foundation starting from the outside of the stain towards the inwards. Avoid rubbing the excess foundation as this may increase the spread of the stain further.
  3. Since most foundations can dissolve on water, use another clean cloth and soak it in plain lukewarm water. Continue gently blotting up the stain with the white cloth. Don’t forget to keep rotating the cloth to clean areas as you go.
  4. If the plain lukewarm doesn’t remove the stain, add a mild detergent to the plain lukewarm water. Dip a new cloth or microfiber in the solution and continue blotting gently now from the inside of the stain out. Give it a few minutes and continue blotting until no marks are left. Remember, to always use a clean portion of the cloth when dipping into the mixture.
  5. Finally, if the stain doesn’t disappear completely, you can go the extra mile and sprinkle some potato or corn starch on the make-up stain. Leave it for 24 hours then vacuum.

Note that, if the carpet still has some visible stain left, you can go for a carpet stain remover. Just make sure you follow the instruction carefully before applying the solution.

How to Get Eyeliner & Mascara Smudges out of Carpet

Unlike an eyeliner pencil, it is easy to drop down a bottle of eyeliner or mascara thus making a mess on your carpet. If that happens, use these steps to solve the problem as soon as possible.

  1. Mix half a liter of cool water with one tablespoon of washing-up liquid. Dip a clean cloth in the solution, wring out the excess, and dab on the stain gently. Repeat this process several times until there is no more color left. Do note, you can use an eye make-up remover instead of washing up liquid.
  2. Dab again the stained area with a clean cloth dipped in plain water and start rinsing the area to remove the soapy residue. Once done, use the dry end of the cloth to absorb any excess moisture and allow the carpet to air dry.
  3. Once the carpet is completely dry, vacuum the spot to restore the carpet to its original texture.

How to Get Nail Polish Out of Your Carpet

It is easy to get nail polish on the carpet by accidentally dropping the bottle or just spilling small drops on it. If that happens just use these straightforward steps to clean the carpet.

  1. Scoop the excess nail polishimmediately to prevent it from drying.
  2. Wipe the nail polish with a dry clothor microfiber cloth. Be careful not to rub the spot so as to reduce any damage to your carpet but instead gently blot the area.           
  3. Apply nail remover on a white cloth and use the wet cloth to dab gently on the stain until it comes out.
  4. Use a wet or dry vacuum around the stain spot for some minutes until you remove excess liquid.

Notably: If you have a white or light-colored carpet, it is advisable to use a clear non-acetone nail polish remover. As for a dark Carpet, it’s good to use rubbing alcohol or hairspray instead of nail polish remover.

How to Get Powder Makeup out of Carpet

Just like other makeup products, you should clean powder immediately after it spills on your carpet. All you need to do is:

  1. Hold the paper towel next to the spill and gently brush the powder onto the towel with a butter knife.
  2. Vacuum the powder on the marked spot. Most of the powder will be lifted off, however, if it doesn’t completely vanish go to the next step.
  3. Mix ¼ of a teaspoon of mild detergent and 1 cup of lukewarm water and dip a white cloth in the solution. Blot at the stain gently repeatedly from the inside of the stain to the outwards. Repeat the process until the spots disappear.
  4. Let the finished spot air dry

How to Get Lipstick out of Your Carpet

Although it’s fun to put on lipstick, you won’t enjoy it when it drops from your hand onto the carpet or you accidentally step on it. However, you can act fast and get the stain out before it dries.

  1. First of all, scrap the pieces of lipstick from the carpet using a spoon or dull knife.
  2. Manage the stain by mixing a tablespoon of mild washing detergent, a tablespoon of white vinegar, and warm water.
  3. Dip a microfiber cloth into the mixture and gently blot the stain
  4. Repeat the process several times until there is no more lipstick stain on the carpet.
  5. If the stain is still visible, place a white paper towel over it and briefly iron over the towel. Mind you, make sure you set the iron to the lowest standard to avoid burning the paper and the carpet too.
